Allergy Testing UK. Do I suffer from an allergy food allergy?

Are You Suffering From an Allergy?

If you’re affected by any of the following, you might have an allergy
Itchy rashes/hives, Red eyes Runny nose, Sore throat, Shortness of breath, Headaches, dizziness & nausea,  Abdominal discomfort & diarrhoea Tingling of the extremities, Depression, Seizures & tremors, Pneumonia, Anaemia, Anaphylactic shock
Allergies are common in both the developed and undeveloped worlds – and sometimes they can be fatal. The prevalence of many allergic diseases are increasing.

About 20% of people in the UK are affected by allergic rhinitis; around 2 million people have at least one food allergy; and about 20% have atopic dermatitis at some point in time. Around 10% of people have asthma. Anaphylaxis, a potentially fatal reaction, occurs in 0.05–2% of people. Blood testing is the most accurate way to identify an undiagnosed allergy.

Our blood tests offer the most accurate way of identifying whether you’re living with an allergy. Our tests will assess you against the most common allergens to ensure the best chance to successfully identifying your personal allergies.

What Are Allergies?

The word ‘allergy’ was first used by Clemens von Pirquet in 1906. Separate from food intolerances and food poisoning, allergies – also known as allergic diseases – are a number of conditions caused by hypersensitivity of the immune system to something in the environment that usually causes most other people little or no problem.

These diseases include hay fever, food allergies, atopic dermatitis, allergic asthma, and anaphylaxis. Common allergens include pollen and certain food; metals and other substances may also cause problems. Food, insect stings, and medications are common causes of severe reactions. Their development is due to both genetic and environmental factors.

Allergy sufferers’ bodies react from the first instant of contact. During allergic reactions, the body’s immune system believes it is being ‘invaded’ and produces IgE (Immunoglobulin E) or IgG (Immunoglobulin G) antibodies to fight off the ingredient it considers harmful.

Early exposure to potential allergens may be protective. Treatments include avoiding known allergens and the use of medications (such as steroids and antihistamines). In severe reactions injectable adrenaline (epinephrine) is recommended. Allergen immunotherapy –which gradually exposes people to increasing amounts of allergen – is useful for some allergies (such as hay fever and reactions to insect bites).
